Don MacDonald Oakville Optimist Bursaries

 

11 Oakville graduating students receiving their bursaries.The Optimist Club of Oakville Don MacDonald Bursaries are awarded annually to Oakville students who are an Oakville resident,  going on to post-secondary education in the next school year with a major in academics, theatre-arts/sports or technology. Our ten 2017-18 bursary receipients are very deserving Oakville high students who have demonstrated their commitment by volunteering within their community and school, while at the same time striving to achieve their best academically. Each student received a $2,000 bursary for their post-secondary education and a certificate. In the back row, from left to right are: Emily Williams, Luke Raczywolski, Madelyn Taylor, Maria Salman, and Jiashen Huang. In the front row, left to right are: Catherine Maul, Syed Rizvi, our Optimist Chair of the Bursary Committee, Pat Mason, Maddie Balchand and Chantal Cote. Unable to attend this evening was bursary recipient, Eunice Tunggal. Six of these students are pursuing studies in health sciences, including neuroscience, physiotherapy, nurse, mental health/addiction and a doctor. Four students are pursuing studies in Engineering and Computer Science, Law, Criminology with a goal of joining the RCMP, and marine biology. There is one bursary available to each of the 11 Public and Catholic High Schools in Oakville. Students may apply directly to the Optimist Club of Oakville with proof of the above criteria or through their high school Guidance Counsellor. Online application forms and guidelines for 2018 bursaries are now available.
