Junior Optimist Club of Oakville

The Junior Optimist Club of Oakville, also known as JOI (Junior Optimist International) Clubs, are supported and mentored by the Optimist Club of Oakville. Our JOI Club has members from local Oakville high school students in Grades 9 to 12 inclusive and is in its twelfth year. They typically meet on the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of the month from 7:00 to 8:30 pm during the school year at the Halton Police Safety Village.  Adult Oakville Optimist Club Advisors who are with them all the timeHere is the JOI Membership Application form,  please fill it in and submit it,

Community Involvement

We are very proud of our JOI Club, their accomplishments, and their impact in the community. They have been and will be again this year, an Honour JOI Club for the past 6 years in a row - as awarded from Optimist International. In all JOI Clubs, members elect their own President, Vice President, Treasurer and Secretary and Directors each year. They select their own projects and activities to improve experiences for youth in Oakville while at the same time accumulating volunteer service hours for high school and scholarships.

Leadership

They have opportunites to enhance their leadership skills, manage projects and work with a budget. JOI is the umbrella organization under Optimist International that links JOI clubs in the Central Ontario District, the District, Region and Internationally. JOI members have the opportunity to also run for election at the District Level and internationally.

Volunteer

People sometimes ask what a Junior Optimist Club accomplishes in a year. In 2023-24, JOI has accumulated over 1200 volunteer hours so far, having a huge impact in the community. They run their own events, help the Oakville Optimist Club with their events, have their own Executive Team, and even when they could not meet in person during the pandemic, they continued to meet weekly and run events for children virtually.

JOI Events 2026

The Junior Optimist Club of Oakville (JOI) members volunteer huge amounts of time to create and run events like this one each year. By the end of the school year they will have volunteered over 1000 hours.  These events are free to ensure that all children can attend without needing to pay for these fun events.  Hopefully, one day they too will be proud and incredible members of our community.

Just one Example

This event is just one example of the many events, projects and activities the JOI Club does for children, seniors and other members of our community. Their ideas and creativity, have helped so many people. They are an incredibly impressive group of youth, who we know will make a difference in the future for everyone. Each year JOI members elect the Executive Team of our JOI Club.  Many of our members in the past have also run and are holding JOI positions for the JOI Central Ontario District (Governor and Lt Governor) and have also been elected to JOI International Positions - please watch the video below from International President Fatima, who was a member of our JOI Club, and JOI International President last year, sitting on the Optimist International Board, representing JOI Clubs around the world.

JOI Easter Event 2026

Another Egg-cellent Success in Oakville!

What an incredible day we had yesterday! The Oakville Junior Optimists were thrilled to host another successful Easter event for our local youth. The atmosphere was absolutely electric, filled with the pure excitement of kids playing games and getting prizes, getting faces painted, and hunting for hidden Easter eggs.

A few major highlights from the day:
• A Special Guest: The Easter Bunny hopped by to help lead the hunt and snap some photos with our participants!
• Youth Leadership: A massive shout-out to our Junior Optimist members and our adult volunteers—your hard work and energy are what make these community traditions possible.
• Local Support: We are sending a huge "Thank You" to Red Swan Pizza (Cross Ave) for their incredible generosity, providing enough delicious pizza to keep both our hard-working volunteers and all the kids who joined us throughout the afternoon fueled and happy!
• Thank you to everyone who came out to celebrate with us. We love seeing our community come together to create such wonderful memories for the kids.

JOI International President, 2022-23

We are so proud of our JOI Club Member, Fatima Zaidi, who held the positions of JOI Club Director, Vice President and President. Fatima also was a Director, and Lieutenant Governor of our Central Ontario District.  In 2022-23 she became a Director on the JOI International Board. In 2023-24 Fatima was elected JOI International President, and therefore represented JOI members around the world, sitting on the Optimist International Board at Optimist International meetings. Below is Fatima's speech she delivered at the Annual Optimist International Convention. We are so very proud of her and the impact she has had at so many levels of Optimism.  She is currently attending University, is a member of our Optimist Club, and is a member of the Optimist International Growth Committee.
